Author Kristina Mausling Shares Her Family's Journey and Upcoming Children's Books Inspired by Her Son's Experiences on the Autism Spectrum.
New York, NY - December 22, 2025 - Kristina Mausling continues to share her family's journey through autism, inspired by her son's experiences growing up on the spectrum. Through her reflections, she hopes to support other parents navigating similar challenges. She also provides insight into advocacy, early signs, and emotional growth.

After early signs of autism were identified in her son, Mausling and her family entered what she describes as a "gray zone"-a period of uncertainty before an official diagnosis. During this time, the family sought tools and strategies to support their child, focusing on understanding his unique needs rather than labels or fear.

Her son was diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder just before his seventh birthday, marking a turning point for the family. "The diagnosis did not change who he was. It changed how we could advocate for him," Mausling explains. Following the diagnosis, the family collaborated with the school to create an Individualized Education Program (IEP), began therapy focused on emotional regulation and social connection, and sought community support to navigate challenges while celebrating their child's strengths.

Through her ongoing journey, Mausling emphasizes the importance of trusting parental instincts, asking questions, and showing up for children even when their communication differs from typical expectations. She highlights the power of sharing personal experiences and the comfort found in community support.

Mausling's story also inspires her writing. Her upcoming children's books-Thomas Rides Free, Thomas Plays Too, and Thomas Needs a Tool [https://kristinamausling.com/about-the-book/]-explore themes of inclusion, emotional growth, and creative problem-solving. Each story reflects her mission to foster understanding, provide resources for families and educators, and honor the diverse strengths and perspectives of all children.

For parents navigating early autism signs, Mausling encourages: "Give yourself grace. You are not failing if you are unsure. You are not alone if you're overwhelmed. Keep asking questions, keep showing up, and keep listening to your child."
