New multi-format inserting system W+D BB550 XL: versatile, intelligent and user-friendly

Highly efficient and flexible envelope inserting with W+D

Neuwied, February 7, 2017 – At Hunkeler Innovationdays 2017 (HID), W+D will be presenting a highly efficient and flexible multi-format inserting system with the new W+D BB550 XL, which covers all requirements right up to packaging solutions.

The W+D BB550 XL is characterized by its versatility. The servo-driven machine, which reaches speeds of up to 12,000 products per hour, not only reliably processes all formats from C6/DL to B4, but also large envelopes with a larger insertion depth up to C4 shipping pockets with the flap on the short side. The second essential feature of the BB550 XL is its expanded packaging strength of up to 25 mm.

Reliable envelope inserting even with multiple personalization
The automated error handling without machine stop provides additional time and productivity advantages. With its high processing reliability, the W+D BB550 XL is particularly well suited for financial and insurance applications. However, it not only efficiently inserts large and small volumes of personalized and confidential documents, but is also ideal for direct mail to fulfillment and packaging applications. These previously often manually inserted mailings can be machine-processed in this inserting machine from a hand-fed station for oversize or print-on-demand jobs (PoD), for example, as well as personalized and stapled products.
In addition, the W+D BB550 XL can easily handle cardboard or express (FedEx, UPS, etc.) and be equipped with hot melt to close tabs.

New catalog feeder CF2
The new W+D CF2 (Catalog Feeder) on the basis of the W+D rotary feeders will also make its debut at Innovationdays. The catalog feeder, which has been specially developed for the implementation of print-on-demand solutions, has a front drawer and the ability to process products with a variable thickness of 1-10 mm without making any adjustments.

In total, the W+D BB550 XL can be equipped with up to 18 servo-driven feeders whose position can be interchanged as desired to optimally process every insert. For additional flexibility, there are a number of additional options: a supplement auto-loader for thin and thicker products, an envelope auto-loader for up to 3,000 envelopes, a kicker for the zip code separation, a Read & Print application, a network-integrated labeler (e.g. for FedEx or UPS labels) as well as other software options and interfaces for intelligent processing.
