New SGS Lab in Vietnam for Jewelry and Candle Making Sectors
In January 2017, SGS officially opened a new laboratory at Hai Phong, in northern Vietnam. The current focus of the facility is on providing state-of-the-art compliance testing facilities and services to the jewelry and candle making industries.With major centers of jewelry and candle manufacture nearby, the laboratory offers a full range of physical and chemical testing services for both industries. During 2017, the facility aims to start issuing reports independently, to expand its testing services for other products (including textiles and garments), and to be recognized as an ISO 17025 accredited lab.
The Hai Pong site offers a number of tests for the jewelry industry:
• X-Ray thickness analysis
• Plating and coating adhesion
• Perspiration resistance
• Accelerated nickel leach
• Strength of jewelry assembly
• Stretch bracelet pull
• Torque testing for soldered or swedged joints
• Impact drop
• Stone adhesion clay
• Coating conductivity
• Sulfur or tellurium tarnish
• Ear post fusion
• Tarnish resistance
• Physical testing – ASTM F963
• Associated tests for lead, cadmium and nickel
The facility’s services for candle manufacturers include:
• Burning
• Weight
• Dimension
• Sooting index
• Temperature record
• Flammability
• Thermal shock
• Safety labeling
• Lead in surface coating and metal wick
Hai Phong is Vietnam’s most northern seaport and its third largest city, with a popu-lation of over two million. It is also one of Vietnam’s most important economic cen-ters and has been earmarked for growth by the government.
