Everyday use leads to visible damage

Modern smartphone designs are increasingly relying on lightweight, color-anodized or painted aluminum backs. These surfaces look elegant, but are often less resistant to abrasion and scratches. Even everyday situations - the device in a trouser pocket, contact with keys, coins or the metal edge of a handbag - can be enough to damage the thin layer of paint.

Why certain smartphone backs are particularly sensitive

Coloured anodized layers or thin coatings on aluminium housings only have a limited hardness due to their design. They can wear off more quickly on edges that are subject to heavy use - especially around the camera module. The darker the color, the more visible scratches become because the lighter metal underneath becomes visible.
