"Breathing Again: Lizbeth's Second Chance Through Courage and Powerful Collaboration"
Baja Angels of the Sea Helps Secure Lifesaving Surgery for 8-Year-Old Orphan Through Extraordinary Nonprofit CollaborationTuesday, December 2, 2025 - Baja California, MX
Baja Angels of the Sea announced today that an 8-year-old girl named Lizbeth, discovered with a serious breathing condition during a recent orphanage visit, has been scheduled for lifesaving surgery on December 4, 2025 - thanks to the rapid, compassionate collaboration between multiple local nonprofits.
A Phone Call at the End of October That Sparked a Chain of Hope
At the end of October, Baja Angels Founder Bruno Barbieri received a call from Dustin of Aleph Baja - the organization that partnered with Baja Angels over the summer to host the Surf Camp and children's swimming classes.
On that call, Dustin introduced Bruno to Armando Valencia and Jan Platovsky, leaders of a successful nonprofit that supports orphanages lacking transportation and resources to secure critical surgeries for children with medical needs.
A Day of Visits That Revealed an Urgent Medical Need
On November 6, Armando and Jan visited Baja Angels headquarters to meet Bruno in person. Together, they spent the day visiting Victoria Hacienda Orphanage, a local women's shelter, and a new orphanage Baja Angels recently began supporting: Rancho La Hermosa, located east of Primo Tapia.
Meeting Lizbeth - A Beautiful Smile Hiding a Dangerous Struggle
Lizbeth walked up with the brightest smile and her hair carefully done. But Bruno and the team noticed she wasn't breathing properly through her nose. After speaking with caregivers, they learned she had a serious medical issue requiring surgery.
Immediate Action - A Life About to Be Changed
Right then - on the same day - Armando called the hospital and secured a medical appointment immediately. Lizbeth is now scheduled for surgery on December 4.
"This is the power and strength of collaboration," said Bruno Barbieri, Founder of Baja Angels of the Sea.
A Heart-Warming Success - and a Reminder of the Children Still Waiting
Bruno emphasizes that Lizbeth is only one of many children across Baja California facing medical, emotional, and material needs.
