Company Co-Founder Don Fish Advocates for Standards in IVF Logistics as Demand Grows
Fishers, Indiana - November 26, 2025 - IVF CRYO, LLC, a leading reproductive tissue transport company based in Fishers, Indiana, is raising awareness about the critical need for safe, standardised shipping of human embryos, eggs, and sperm across the United States and internationally. As more families turn to fertility treatments, IVF CRYO is calling attention to a growing gap in patient understanding and industry regulation around how reproductive tissue is moved between clinics.
"Most people assume that their embryos are transported with the same care as their medical treatment," said Don Fish, co-founder of IVF CRYO. "But that's not always the case. Shipping is often overlooked. And when it's handled poorly, it puts years of effort and hope at risk."
Don and his brother Ed started IVF CRYO in California before moving the company to Indiana in 2020 to support national and international operations. Since 2018, the business has specialised in the transport and short-term storage of reproductive tissue, working directly with both patients and IVF clinics.
A Critical Issue With Little Visibility
Every year, tens of thousands of IVF cycles involve transporting embryos, eggs, or sperm between clinics. Yet, many patients are unaware of how fragile that process can be. According to the CDC, over 91,000 babies were born via assisted reproductive technology (ART) in 2021 in the U.S. alone. Many of those involved storage or shipment at some stage.
"There are still clinics trying to handle it themselves, or worse, using general couriers," said Fish. "We've seen cases where there was no temperature monitoring, no chain-of-custody tracking, and no clear accountability. That's not acceptable for what's basically someone's future child."
Fish notes that IVF CRYO regularly fields questions from patients who don't know who is shipping their reproductive tissue or how it's being handled. "One couple had one embryo left after years of trying. They had no idea how it was going to be moved. That's a massive red flag."
The Need for National Standards
Currently, there are no universal protocols or oversight bodies dedicated to reproductive tissue transport in the U.S., leaving responsibility scattered across clinics, labs, and third-party services. This creates inconsistency-and in some cases, risk.
"We'd like to see clear national guidelines," Fish said. "Not to slow the process down, but to make sure it's safe, transparent, and consistent. Every patient deserves to know that their tissue is being handled properly."
Until that happens, Fish believes the responsibility falls to businesses like his to raise the standard and educate the public.
"Transport is not an afterthought," he said. "It's a mission-critical step in someone's fertility journey. It needs to be treated that way."
Call to Action: What Patients and Clinics Can Do Now
IVF CRYO is encouraging patients and clinics to take a more active role in how reproductive tissue is moved. Fish recommends a few simple but powerful steps:
*
Ask who is transporting the tissue.
*
Ask how it's being monitored during transport.
*
Ask to see the company's process and experience.
*
Ask for a brochure or protocol sheet.
*
Ask if they've done this type of move before.
"You don't need to be a shipping expert," said Fish. "You just need to ask the right questions. That alone can help avoid a major issue."
IVF CRYO is not asking for attention-it's asking for accountability.
"We're not trying to be everywhere," Fish said. "We're trying to be the company people trust when it matters most. If others raise their standards too, that's even better. Because at the end of the day, we're not competing with each other. We're working to protect future families."
