A Special Thanksgiving Message from David Jeremiah
For Immediate ReleaseThursday, November 27, 2025
(San Diego) The best evidence of a Spirit-filled life is an attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude.
Those two attributes are not something we talk enough about. They tend to fill our conversations during this time of year when we pause as a nation to celebrate Thanksgiving Day and begin ringing in the Christmas season, but the rest of the year, it's not a prominent topic.
However, that's not the message we find in the Bible. Instead, we find that cultivating an attitude of thanksgiving and gratitude changes your perspective. Gratitude is the best evidence that God is working in your life.
The words "thanks, thankful, thanksgiving" appear more than 150 times in the Bible. Two of the most common Bible verses on thankfulness are 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and Philippians 4:6 -
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
In our current world, there are many reasons to be ungrateful, many things that we could complain about, and several that cause worry and sleepless nights. But when the Spirit of God is in us, we will have a heart that notices the blessings, even amid the burdens of life.
This past week, I was blessed to see this kind of attitude in action from a pastor in Nigeria with whom we partner at Turning Point Ministries. It's been in the news recently that Christians in Nigeria are facing immense persecution for their faith. Still, the pastor of this church sent us a video he made for his church and the outlying community, encouraging them to increase their evangelist outreach as they enter the Christmas season. He was so excited not just about their upcoming Christmas events but about being able to share the Gospel amid all the recent deaths and continuing threats.
It's a tough question, but would you be that joyful amid threats and persecution?
We are blessed to live in a country where religious persecution is rare, but so are attitudes of thanksgiving and gratitude. This Thanksgiving let's aim to be as filled with the Spirit as that pastor is right now, and cultivate a lifestyle that is consistently filled with the Spirit.
When we put our complete trust in God, the Holy Spirit will fill us, enabling us to see the blessings that abound even amid the chaos. Just as our friend, the Nigerian pastor, who is overflowing with joy amid persecution. On this Thanksgiving Day, may we thank the Lord for His presence in our lives, that we can trust Him in all things, and that if we ask, He will cultivate an attitude of gratitude in our lives.
Join me in this prayer of gratitude on this day set aside for giving thanks.
PRAYER OF GRATITUDE
"Heavenly Father, as the Psalmist wrote, 'It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning and your faithfulness by night."
We know that you will give us gratitude if we ask, but we also know it is a choice, may we choose daily to be grateful. May we start being thankful like never before.
Fill us with your Holy Spirit, fill us with Spirit-filled gratitude for everything and in everything that we might be a good representative of the gracious, wonderful Father who loves us and gave His Son for us.
Thank you for the daily blessings you bestow upon us, for the blessing of Your indwelling Spirit, and for eternity with You.
Thank you for the grace you have given us.
May we live with an attitude of gratitude and daily follow You.
Help us to remember, amid conflicts great and small, to count our blessings and know that you are God over all.
We stand in awe of Your blessings, firmly grounded in gratitude for the ways You care for us.
Your 'compassions never fail, they are new every morning!'
AMEN
Happy Thanksgiving!
