Tools from ANT - The most effective and cost-saving way for P&A.

Two main challenges with decommissioning are the removale of wells under the mudline and the plugging of damaged ones. ANT offers a solution for both.

Decommissioning by downhole cutting

Since there are more than 600 projects expected to be decommissioned during the next five years a lot of work comes up to offshore service companies (1). Especially cutting off wells under the mudline after plugging is a big challenge.

For this special task ANT designed their unique mobile Downhole Cutting Heads (DCH). The DCHs are inserted in the well over a gooseneck and can be lowered up to 500ft (150m). While rotating downhole in this well the Water Abrasive Suspension (WAS) jet cuts multi string casings and single tubes of 7“ up to 72“ pipe size.

The unique WAS cutting system in combination with the air surrounded jet allows a powerful and cold cut. The Suspension Jet unfolds its strength at the hard metal nozzle, where - within a few millimeters - the pressure transforms into a speed of several hundred meters per second. With this speed the jet is able to cut concrete and steel up to half a meter thickness even in ATEX zones.

Erosion Tool for damaged wells

ANT has developed an Erosion Technology to clear possible restrictions in existing deformed or collapsed wellbores. These restrictions are mainly based on underground rock movements. With these movements the wells are bruised or offset in a way that there is no straight opening at a certain diameter that a tool can pass through.

ANTs patented method is a ground-breaking development for the whole offshore industry. The Water Abrasive Supension (WAS) is pressed through a specially designed multi-jet nozzlehead, eroding the restriction that deforms the well.

No longer slip offs from drilling heads, several times faster than usual drilling and easy handling will minimize the costs essentially for every energy and service company.
