European experts contribute to roadmap for Software & Software Services
The 3S-project-consortium, founder of the "European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering" (ECSS), gathered experts from all over Europe for an interactive workshop on challenges in the Software and Software Services field. The workshop was held in Budapest on April 3, 2008 and opened the floor to discuss several aspects from “Leveraging semantics for dynamic discovery, matching composition of software services” over "Non-functional requirements & business processes and policies for software services provision" to "Privacy protection and market regulation in convergent electronic communications".
The ECSS workshop brought together experts from the scientific community and from the industry. Members of the ECSS Advisory Board, high-level experts from business and science, were also present.
"It is critical that the ECSS White Paper covers views and judgements from the widest possible number of European entities and individuals with a stake in the area of software services" says Maria Pilar de Miguel, 3S-project coordinator. "This second workshop therefore represents a milestone of the whole project and, same as the first workshop in Brussels in September 2007, revealed many new insights".

The ECSS White Paper will be presented at the ECSS International Conference which is planned for late 2008 / early 2009.

3S is a project funded by the European Commission under Framework Programme 6, Information Society & Media Directorate. It will support the goals of the IST Priority in developing a Joint European White Paper for R&D and Industry in the Service and Software Architectures, Infrastructures and Engineering field. The aim is to push the involvement of the EU to a competitive position worldwide by identifying strategies and technologies that will facilitate future developments and reduce fragmentation. With the creation of ECSS (European Community for Software & Software Services – Architectures, Infrastructures, Engineering) 3S is establishing a platform for networking and knowledge transfer between the relevant scientific and industrial communities and for jointly pursuing the interests of the stakeholders in the field of IST.
