Nepal Police deploys a self-hosted video conferencing cloud

The Nepal Police chose an on-premises system to establish a dedicated collaboration infrastructure. This strategic move allows the Police to digitalize communications among officers and connect seamlessly with external departments and governmental organisations, significantly improving teamwork efficiency for critical police work.

As the primary law enforcement body in Nepal, the Police is entrusted with maintaining public order, preventing and investigating crimes, ensuring road safety, and safeguarding citizens and property.

Playing a pivotal role in upholding national security, the agency not only delivers rapid internal response but also coordinates closely with key security entities such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force. With over 80,000 personnel serving across 77 districts, the Nepal Police required a scalable and secure collaboration platform to maintain operational effectiveness.

Previously reliant on fragmented solutions like Skype for external meetings and BigBlueButton for internal communications, the agency faced challenges with security gaps and disjointed workflows. This prompted the transition to a self-controlled collaboration network.

Partnering with Connepsys, a leading provider of UC and video conferencing solutions in Nepal, the Police deployed TrueConf Server, integrating workplaces, meeting rooms, and police officers' personal devices into a unified address space for swift video conferencing, remote interaction, and information exchange in a secure messenger.

TrueConf Server runs on the proprietary protocol and guarantees the Police full administrative control over access to the video collaboration system and its independence from third-party factors. Hosted on-premises within the agency's private network, an all-in-one solution ensures that all sensitive data are processed and stored locally, eliminating their transfer outside the country.

Officers leverage TrueConf cross-platform applications on their workplaces and mobile devices to collaborate via chat and video conferencing regardless of their location. The private cloud built upon the police's requirements enables real-time emergency response coordination, inter-departmental task collaboration, as well as field investigations and daily operational briefings.

Additionally, the Nepal Police Academy provides educational and training courses for officers, which are now conducted in a hybrid mode.

The Police hold internal meetings among different departments across Nepal, as well as public conferences with officers from external agencies. During large-scale events, the layout for 49 video windows allows speakers to discuss working issues with the increased engagement by enabling all the speakers to see and hear one another. Conference moderators manage the conference layout, participants and their devices for more effective communication and ensuring security and order at the meeting.

"TrueConf's consistent reliability has transformed how the team of the Nepal Police connects internally, ensuring seamless communication even during national scale meetings. The platform fosters collaboration and productivity across the organization." said Santosh Sitaula, the representative of Connepsys Pvt Ltd.
