In this case, BAE Systems selected CoorsTek's hot-pressed boron carbide armor plates for integration into next-generation armored vehicles and lightweight personal protective systems. The plates were manufactured using precision hot-pressing techniques that achieved nearly full density, optimizing ballistic performance and multi-hit durability. Boron carbide's ability to absorb impact energy and resist fragmentation made it an ideal candidate for composite armor systems in conjunction with backing layers such as Kevlar or UHMWPE.
