In this case, Safran Aircraft Engines utilized Saint-Gobain's boron nitride ceramic powder for fabricating high-temperature insulating and anti-oxidation coatings applied to turbine blades and combustion chamber liners. The fine particle size and high purity provided excellent lubricity, dielectric strength, and oxidation resistance under extreme thermal conditions exceeding 1,200°C.

The boron ceramic coating ensured stable thermal conductivity, reduced surface friction, and protected metal substrates from oxidation and thermal shock during continuous engine operation. The powder was processed into coating pastes and applied using thermal spraying techniques.

Safran selected this product due to its superior high-temperature endurance, chemical inertness, and proven performance in aerospace-grade applications. Alternative materials like alumina or zirconia were less effective in maintaining stability under high-speed airflow and rapid temperature cycling. This project demonstrated the value of boron ceramic powder in improving turbine efficiency, reliability, and longevity in next-generation jet engines.
