A "Mama" of a Festival

04-17-2008 05:05 PM CET | Arts & Culture

Press release from: PrimaDonna Productions

Moms in San Antonio will enjoy their turn to play on Mother’s Day weekend, as “Moms Who Rock” take the stage for the Alamo City’s first annual Mamapalooza Festival.

WHEN:
Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10AM - 7PM

WHERE:
Blue Bubble Ballroom
9315 N. Broadway (just outside Loop 410)

DETAILS:
Magic 105.3, the Creative Arts Studio of San Antonio (CASSA), The Motherhood Foundation, PrimaDonna Productions, and Rome Talent Agency present the Mamapalooza Festival, an annual celebration of mothers and all women in the arts; the local festival, part of a worldwide event, will raise awareness and funds for The Battered Women and Children's Shelter of Bexar County (www.fvps.org) and The Heidi Search Center, Inc. (www.heidisearchcenter.com).

“We want to remind all the moms out there that just because they have children, they don't have to give up their own dreams,” says Alexis Anthony, a mom herself, as well as a singer-songwriter and co-founder of CASSA. “Whether they're performing for the first time, or coming back to the stage after taking time off to raise their kids, this is a chance for them to discover – or re-discover – the creative part of themselves.”

Musical artists will be showcased throughout the day, beginning with a coffeehouse showcase for acoustic artists, including Anthony, from 10AM – 11AM, and a Solo Artists Showcase from 11AM – 1PM. Headlining the festival, from 1PM – 7PM, are Katherine Dawn, Julie Good, Spirit Breeze, The Lavens, Ulterior Motive, and Laura Marie.

Attractions will also include a mini-spa for mothers who want to pamper themselves with facials, manicures, and massages; a silent auction with such prizes as tutoring and housecleaning sessions; and prizes from Magic 105.3. Attractions for children will include face painting, “moon bouncers”, and balloon animals.
