The specialist tour operator TMC Reisen has now published a new guidebook article on this subject, which offers specific recommendations and practical tips for stress-free route planning.

The article gives typical guidelines, describes regional differences and shows why spontaneous stops and rest periods are just as important for the travel experience as the actual sights.

"In Australia or New Zealand, we usually recommend 250 to 300 kilometers per day; in Canada or the USA, 400 kilometers is often feasible. In Namibia or Botswana, on the other hand, even 200 kilometers on gravel roads can be a long day's drive."
