Aluminum oxynitride transparent ceramics are produced through carefully controlled powder processing, densification, and finishing steps to achieve near-theoretical density and minimal optical defects. The production typically involves cold isostatic pressing (CIP) of green bodies, followed by high-temperature sintering in nitrogen-rich atmospheres to promote phase formation and minimize porosity. Advanced densification methods such as hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) are employed to fully eliminate residual pores and achieve optical-grade transparency. HIP, in particular, provides isotropic pressure and temperature conditions that yield uniform grain growth and excellent mechanical properties.
