Big Kid Circus Unveils Ambitious Plans for New Home at Former Oil Village, East Calder
East Calder, West Lothian - 2nd October, 2025 - Located at Oakbank, the current under-utilised site offers a unique opportunity to bring together performance, education and nature. The proposals will be delivered in phases and aim to create a hub that meets the needs of both Big Kid Circus [https://www.bigkidcircus.co.uk/] and the wider East Calder community.
What is being proposed
* A multi-functional training school, supporting the development of circus arts and performance skills.
* Community-orientated facilities to provide space for events, workshops and local groups.
* A strong connection to nature, through thoughtful design, landscaping and public access to outdoor areas.
Community engagement & consultation
To ensure that local voices are heard, Big Kid Circus is embarked on a two-stage public consultation:
* First event: 26 February 2025, 12:00-19:30 at Oakbank Bowling Club, Oakbank Road, East Calder, EH53 0BT.
* Second event: 14 May 2025, 12:00-19:30 at Dave King Partnership Centre, 139 Main Street, East Calder, Livingston, EH53 0EP (please note this date replaced the earlier planned 3 April meeting).
Consultation boards will be available both in person and online, so people can view the proposals in whatever format is most convenient. Feedback will be accepted until 30 June 2025.
