At a festive award ceremony last week in Bad Homburg, Thea Moeller received this year's "Friends of Blickachsen Art Prize ". The Vienna-based artist received the award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros, for her sculpture "Sign", created for Blickachsen 14.

The prize has been awarded since the fourth edition of the Blickachsen sculpture biennial in 2003, and recognizes every two years the distinctive artistic approach of one of the younger participants in the exhibition. Since 2015 it has been awarded by the Friends of Blickachsen.

"This year, the jury unanimously chose Thea Moeller", said Blickachsen founder and curator Christian K. Scheffel from the Blickachsen Foundation - also on behalf of Carina Plath (head of the Department for Art in the Public Space and Curator at Large at the Sprengel Museum Hannover), who was on the jury as co-curator of Blickachsen 14, of Sir Peter Murray CBE (founding Director Emeritus of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the UK) as permanent external jury member, and Thomas Buhl from the Friends of Blickachsen.

"The award of the Sculpture Prize continues to be a vital and significant part of the Blickachsen biennial", said Sir Peter Murray at the award ceremony. "We are delighted to congratulate Thea Moeller on receiving this year's award."

Later, Carina Plath praised the work of the award winner, born in 1985, saying: "With 'Sign', Thea Moeller has placed a seemingly non-functioning illuminated sign in the cultivated park. As a disruptive element, it asserts its own autonomy and draws attention to its detailed formal design, the fine lines in its frame, its materiality and well-chosen proportions. With her sculpture, Moeller captures the essence of the tension between park and art, between the sculpture biennial and artistic self-assertion in one of the most successful works at this year's Blickachsen."

Thea Moeller, born in Hanover in 1985, studied at the art academies in Nuremberg (2008-2010) and Vienna (2010-2014). Since then, her works have been exhibited in various countries in Europe and in the USA. She lives and works in Vienna.

The Blickachsen 14 exhibition in the Kurpark, Palace Park, and Gustavsgarten in Bad Homburg can be seen until October 5.

About the Blickachsen Foundation
The public benefit Blickachsen Foundation, with its seat in Bad Homburg, Germany, was established in March 2013 to oversee the Blickachsen Sculpture Biennale, which it organizes together with the municipality of Bad Homburg, the Kur- und Kongre?-GmbH and the Administration of the Public Stately Homes and Gardens in Hessen. The foundation's aim is to secure the long-term future of the Biennale, and to provide access to contemporary sculpture and installation art to an ever-growing audience in the public space. At the same time, the foundation seeks to promote the evolving cultural attraction of the city of Bad Homburg and the further Rhine-Main region, and to establish the region over time as an international centre for contemporary sculpture. In offering, every two years, a platform for exhibiting the work of both young and established artists from around the world, the foundation seeks both to promote emerging artistic talent, and to heighten popular interest in and appreciation of the most varied currents in three-dimensional art. A lively encounter with contemporary sculpture is stimulated by the diverse range of Blickachsen tours and workshops for children, young people and adults. In addition, the foundation sees itself as a mediator and point of intersection between cultural and educational institutions, supporting the dialogue between artists and museums, as well as between art and scholarship.
