CAD industry’s leading conference commences today in Scottsdale

Scottsdale, AZ. April 10, 2008 -- Cyon Research Corporation, hosts of the Congress On the Future of Engineering Software (COFES), today welcomed more than 280 attendees at its opening.

This year’s event is focused on the opportunities, challenges, and issues raised by the need for sustainability in new products and buildings, as well as efficiency in energy and raw material use. Many of its discussions, and keynotes, will be concentrated on how sustainability represents both a threat and an opportunity for the industry, and how the opportunities can be seized upon.

Karl Ulrich, himself an innovator, and co-founder of the TerraPass carbon-offset program, is the main keynote for the event. He will present on Extreme-Value Innovation, and how the seemingly random process of selecting opportunities can be logically managed.

The theme of the event is also supported by other visionary keynoters such as Terry Swack, from CleanCulture, an environmental entrepreneur who will bring to light opportunities for engineers to succeed in sustainable design.

Autodesk, an influential proponent of the need for sustainability tools for designers in every industry, supports the focus on the issue at this year’s event.

"With the theme of sustainability in engineering this year, COFES is pushing the thoughts of the industry's leaders into areas that are neither easy or comfortable, but which are critical, " said Robert "Buzz" Kross, senior vice president of Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions. "By having this gathering of brilliant minds working on this issue, we are confident great things can happen."

For the first time, COFES also incorporates Innovation Insights 2008, an event that deals with strategies for driving innovation and managing knowledge. Attendees learn the best techniques for innovation, as well as participating in the general session keynotes and presentations of COFES.

COFES fosters a unique discussion among the best minds of the engineering software industry, where a relaxed and informal atmosphere encourages both private and public conversations about future technology in the marketplace. The three-day event gathers executives and engineers together to address the most important issues facing both users and vendors of engineering technologies.

“COFES is about the only event I know of where I can meet most of the leaders of engineering software in one room,” says Jon Hirschstick, founder of SolidWorks “Not only the leaders of large software venders but also the thought leaders – the people with ideas. COFES is the place where the key people in the industry operate.”
