TEISA and Bia Lead the Way in Smart Charging for Electric Buses at Montfullà Depot

TEISA and Bia have launched a groundbreaking smart charging system for electric buses at TEISA's Montfullà depot, marking a major step forward in fleet electrification and energy management.

The new solution delivers:

Real-time charging insights - continuous monitoring of all charging sessions, with detailed cost calculations based on hourly wholesale market prices (OMIE).

Vehicle-level cost tracking - each bus is individually identified during charging, enabling precise analysis of operating costs by vehicle and route.

Dynamic, automated optimization - charging is automatically scheduled based on vehicle departures, energy needs, contracted power limits, and market price fluctuations.

As a result, TEISA has reduced variable charging costs by 35%, without exceeding contracted power thresholds.

Bia's technology has also significantly improved charger-vehicle compatibility, cutting down interruptions before full battery capacity is reached.

"We previously faced challenges with scheduling vehicle charging, and with four new public charging points coming soon, we wanted a solution that would eliminate concerns about exceeding power limits or incurring penalties. Bia's system takes care of everything automatically while also lowering costs by shifting charging to the most economical hours," said Marc Berenguer, Operations & Certifications Engineer at TEISA.

Looking ahead, Bia highlighted that this marks only the start of a broader partnership: "Together with TEISA, we are developing a pioneering joint project to be announced in the coming months - one that will establish this depot as a benchmark for intelligent electric fleet management."
