The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club’s (HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) Over-30 team opened week one of the South Bay Peninsula Soccer League’s (SBPSL.com) post-season tournament with a 4-1 win.

After clinching the 2007/2008 SBPSL Over-30 League title with a regular season record of 15-4-3 and a league-leading 93 total goals scored, HBSC began the six week round robin SBPSL tournament with a resounding win.

“Our club worked very hard to clinch the regular season trophy. While we have won the tournament trophy in the past, we have never won both the league and tournament trophies in the same season,” said Jesse Torres, Club founder and Over-30 player. “Unlike other years, our team is healthy entering the post-season, giving us a real shot at capturing both trophies this year.”

“The Over-30s have been incredibly consistent this year. With only four losses in 22 games, despite a highly competitive league, HBSC’s Over-30s have been awesome,” said HBSC President and Premier team player Brian Dragich. “The Over-30s bench depth has provided the support necessary to endure the long season and injuries that occurred along the way. Now, at the start of the tournament they are nearly at full strength. I feel sorry for the teams they’ll encounter. They are surely to run teams into the ground.”

HBSC’s Over-30 team is also expected to recapture the post-season tournament trophy, bringing to an end the 2007/2008 season. HBSC will take a brief break before competing in several summer tournaments, including San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz.

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club extends its gratitude to its generous 2007/2008 sponsors: Del Amo Construction (DelAmoConstruction.com), Elliott/Drinkward Construction (ElliottDrinkward.com), TomatoBank, N.A. (TomatoBank.com), Coastline Steel (CoastlineSteel.com), Quality Seafood (QualitySeafood.net), SCS Engineering Inc (SCSEngineering.com) and FFI Soccer Magazine (FFISoccer.com).

The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
