More than 150 Milton Keynes residents step up as Domestic Abuse

As MK Act marks 50 years of supporting survivors of domestic abuse in Milton Keynes, the charity is calling on more local people to step forward and become Domestic Abuse Champions.

More than 150 people across Milton Keynes have now signed up to become Domestic Abuse Champions, taking a stand against domestic abuse and helping to build a safer, more supportive community.

The Domestic Abuse Champions programme, run by MK Act, Milton Keynes' specialist domestic abuse service and funded by Milton Keynes City Council, equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognise the signs of abuse, support those affected, and signpost them to the help they need.

MK Act aims to expand the network further in 2025 to ensure even more residents know how to access support and feel safe reaching out for help.

Domestic Abuse Champions come from all walks of life and are trained to raise awareness in their communities and workplaces. They play a vital role in spotting signs of abuse, sharing resources, and signposting those affected to specialist support.

"We're proud to have built a strong network of over 150 Domestic Abuse Champions across the city," said Sue Burke, CEO of MK Act. "As we mark 50 years of supporting survivors in the city, we're also looking ahead. Expanding this network is key to ensuring more people in Milton Keynes know where to turn for help."

To mark its 50th anniversary, MK Act has also unveiled a brand-new DA Champions logo, designed by local graphic designer Bhavini Lakhani of B81 Designs. The refreshed look symbolises the charity's ongoing commitment to hope, safety and change, while paying tribute to five decades of community support. MK Act expressed its gratitude to Bhavini for donating her time and creativity to the project.

The next round of Domestic Abuse Champions training will take place in September 2025, and MK Act encourages interested individuals to register early.

The training is online, free and open to those living or working in Milton Keynes, providing vital knowledge and tools to safely support victims and raise awareness.
