New Children's Book "Violet Loves Rondo" Celebrates National Black Business Month by Honoring St. Paul's Historic Rondo Neighborhood

St. Paul, MN - In recognition of National Black Business Month, Rondo native, educator, and award-winning author Dr. Artika Tyner is releasing Violet Loves Rondo, a heartwarming children's book that celebrates the legacy and resilience of Black-owned businesses in St. Paul's historic Rondo neighborhood. Published by Planting People Growing Justice Press, a Rondo-based social enterprise, the book uplifts the power of community building through entrepreneurship.

Set against the backdrop of Rondo, once a thriving center of Black culture and commerce before much of it was destroyed by the construction of Interstate 94 in the 1950s, the story follows young Violet as she learns about her neighborhood's rich history. Through encounters with local entrepreneurs and cultural leaders, she discovers how Black businesses serve as anchors of identity, pride, and resilience.

The release comes at a time when Black entrepreneurship faces both immense challenges and transformative opportunity.
