Community Unites to Protest Inhumane Prison Conditions at Just Us Gardens Celebration
Minneapolis, MN - August 14, 2025- Community members, activists, and families will gather Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Just Us Gardens, located at 2659 N Queen Ave, Minneapolis, to participate in a powerful event highlighting the urgent need for justice and reform within our correctional system.
Hosted by Justice Impacted Individuals Voting Effectively (JIIVE) , Project Sweetie Pie, and ZitKala-Luta, the Just Us Gardens Celebration aims to raise awareness about the inhumane treatment of incarcerated individuals and advocate for the implementation of the PRISON GARDENING PROGRAM (241.241).
This event will feature the unveiling of a Solitary Confinement Cell Garden and Prison Mattress-Size Raised Beds visual protest designed to evoke reflection and challenge the ongoing use of food as punishment. These symbolic gardens serve as a stark reminder of the conditions faced by those in confinement and highlight the need for humane treatment and rehabilitation.
