Is there really a difference in aftermarket parts and original equipment?

Press release from: Auto Parts Plus More

One of the big questions I see all the time is should I use original parts or aftermarket? Let’s examine the differences and what the advantages or disadvantages are. -

Navarre Florida January 24th 2006

First off, let’s get a little terminology out of the way. Anytime you see the acronym OEM, it stands for Original Equipment Manufactured. For example, you will see ads that say “genuine GM parts”, this means they are OEM parts for General Motors.

Whether this is important to you depends upon a few things. If you have an expensive vehicle and you want to maintain the highest value you probably want to always use OEM parts, especially if you are driving something like a BMW, Mercedes, or Lexus.

If you are just driving a $500 beater you probably just want to buy whatever it takes to repair it at the cheapest price in which case aftermarket parts will probably be your choice.

So what does aftermarket mean? Aftermarket refers to parts made for a vehicle by companies other than the manufacturer. Now, depending upon the part you are replacing it may or may not be crucial to use OEM parts. For example, windshield wiper blades are not crucial while major engine component like an alternator may be.

I recommend you take a look around at http://www.AutoPartsInStock.com to see what kind of selection they have for your vehicle, they have a huge variety of parts for all makes and models.

Sometimes, if you have bought a lower end model you may want to upgrade it later. For example, if you have an older car without power windows you may want to install power windows. If the car never had them you will be installing aftermarket power windows. You may want to customize your car with different color taillights, or use Denon headlights.

Another choice you will have to make will be whether it will be custom or universal.
Some companies make aftermarket universal fit body parts for instance that may fit several different models. If your desire is to retain the highest value for your vehicle, you will want to use custom parts made just for your vehicle.

Aftermarket parts are not necessarily of a lower quality because they are less expensive. You just have to judge for yourself which one better suits your needs.

At http://www.AutoPartsInStock you will find what you need, whether it be OEM or aftermarket.
