Ontario Resort Wedding Celebration Joyfully Acknowledges Earth Hour

Gilmour, Ontario -- On March 29, 2008 at 8pm, people all around the world participated in Earth Hour by turning off their electrically powered lights. Designed to raise public awareness of the problem of global warming and the importance of conserving energy, this year’s Earth Hour has been deemed an overwhelming success by the public and environmentalists alike. Thousands of Canadians joined the worldwide effort to fight global warming by turning off the lights. Over 150 communities across Canada flicked their lights off for one hour, reducing the province's power usage by more then 5 percent.

In a beautiful and secluded wilderness area, approximately two hours north east of Metropolitan Toronto, the observance of Earth Day was particularly meaningful for a group of family and friends who attended the weekend wedding of Susan Forshaw and Andre Gaudreau at the Beaver Creek Resort. After the fireside wedding ceremony and reception of champagne and hors d’ouevres in the dining room overlooking the Beaver Creek, wedding guests enjoyed a catered dinner by candlelight, as all electric lights were turned off at 8pm in observance of Earth Day.

As an added bonus, guests were treated to a view of the beautiful night sky through the dining room’s many windows, made possible due to the soft light from the candles. To mark the end of Earth Hour, fireworks were set off by the shore of Beaver Creek. Susan and Andre had wanted their wedding to be very special and they couldn’t have been happier. They chose Beaver Creek because they were able to reserve the entire resort for the weekend, and as outdoors enthusiasts, they loved our wilderness setting- but it was the personalized attention they received that really made the weekend a success,” concludes Peicheva.
