"Why I Started the Safer Cycling Foundation"

For as long as I can remember, cycling has been more than just a pastime - it's been a way to stay grounded, connected, and free.

Growing up in New Zealand, bikes were a part of everyday life. But over the years, I started noticing something that didn't sit right with me: roads were getting busier, and safety for cyclists - especially children and families - was falling by the wayside.

That's why I founded the Safer Cycling Foundation - not just as a charity, but as a movement to protect and educate. What began as a personal mission to make roads safer for my own kids and community has now grown into a national initiative helping schools, local councils, and families all across Aotearoa.

We've distributed helmets and partnered with advocacy groups to push for stronger infrastructure and public awareness. But more than that, we're building a culture of respect between drivers and cyclists - one classroom, one town, and one ride at a time.

I know I'm more publicly known for my work in the property space, but this - creating real, grassroots impact - is where my heart is. I believe that with the right resources and the right intent, business owners have a responsibility to give back to the communities they serve.

The Safer Cycling Foundation is personal. It's purposeful. And we're only just getting started.
