Reinventing the Gold Standard
The DCS series has long been the gold standard in fingerprint photography, first revolutionising the process 25 years ago by integrating digital imaging with powerful enhancement tools and a secure authentication workflow for court admissibility. DCS 6 continues this evolution, elevating image enhancement potential while streamlining processes for consistently impressive results.
A pivotal advancement in the DCS 6 is the integration of RUVIS (Reflected Ultraviolet Imaging System), a powerful sub-visible imaging technique. While RUVIS has long been a recognised fingerprint visualisation technique, recent advancements in component technology now enable examiners, for the first time, to achieve DCS-quality fingermarks using this powerful method. This allows for the non-destructive detection of latent or minimally treated fingerprints, even revealing subtle details on challenging backgrounds, and offers an additional application for detecting illicit substances like synthetic opioids on documents.
"The DCS 6 represents a significant leap forward in our commitment to equipping forensic professionals with the most advanced tools available," states Darren Corbett, Head of Product Management at foster+freeman.
"We've listened to our users, embraced cutting-edge technology, and meticulously re-engineered every aspect to deliver unparalleled precision and efficiency, ensuring that even the most challenging fingerprints can be powerfully revealed and precisely documented for conclusive identification."
Key Features of the DCS 6:
Redefining Image Capture with a custom-modified Nikon Z9 Mirrorless System:
At the heart of DCS 6 is the groundbreaking Nikon Z9, our first mirrorless camera, custom-integrated for forensic applications. This fundamental shift delivers exceptional advancements in resolution, low-light performance, and dynamic range, ensuring unprecedented precision and clarity in evidence capture.
Optimised for Fingerprint Workflow:
Engineered from extensive user feedback, the DCS 6 workstation is meticulously designed for maximum forensic efficiency. Its robust copystand with integrated storage and intuitive, multi-lingual GUI streamline every operation, empowering professionals to focus solely on analysis.
Ultimate Multi-Spectral Illumination Toolset: Providing an unrivalled selection of multi-modal light sources, DCS 6 delivers the ultimate multi-spectral illumination toolset for fingerprint visualisation. Utilise individual or combined high-intensity illumination across the extended forensic bandwidth (shortwave UV-A to Infrared) to boost the visibility of latent, patent, dusted, and chemically processed marks.
Pioneering RUVIS Integration: DCS 6 is the first to deliver AFIS-quality RUVIS imaging, providing intense shortwave UV radiation for non-destructive detection of latent and minimally treated prints with unparalleled clarity and detail. This also extends to detecting illicit substances.
Advanced Enhancement Suite: Features an intuitive and powerful set of image enhancement tools, meticulously re-engineered to maximise detail and clarity, specifically designed for forensic fingerprint analysis.
Uncompromising Image Integrity (ITD): Ensures digital evidence integrity by utilising SHA-256 hashing and producing a complete cradle-to-grave audit trail from capture to court.
A Flexible Solution for New and Existing Users:
The DCS 6 is available in various powerful configurations - from the essential DCS 6 CORE to the comprehensive DCS 6 PRO + RUVIS - each tailored to specific forensic needs.
For the first time, the powerful DCS imaging suite, with its full post-capture enhancement capabilities and ITD Audit Trail, can be remotely installed and operated on a separate PC, independent of the DCS 6 workstation. This enables laboratories to seamlessly separate capture and enhancement processes, perfectly matching their desired workflow and operational requirements.
