EMI and Shield

Mencom Corporation reaffirms its commitment to addressing electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS), and radio frequency (RF) challenges through its advanced electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) solutions. With nearly four decades of expertise, Mencom's portfolio ensures reliable performance in high-interference industrial environments, meeting stringent regulatory standards and customer demands.

Understanding EMI, EMS, and EMC

EMC stands for electromagnetic compatibility which ensures electronic devices function properly without disrupting other devices or environmental factors. The three fundamental concepts within EMC include electromagnetic interference (EMI) electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) and radio frequency (RF) considerations.

The term EMI describes unwanted electromagnetic energy that produces noise or signal distortion which disrupts device operation. The sources of EMI include industrial machinery as well as power lines and wireless signals which produce data errors and system failures.

A device's resistance to external electromagnetic disturbances is measured through EMS to maintain consistent performance in demanding environments.

RF represents a specific part of EMI which includes electromagnetic waves that operate within the radio frequency spectrum extending from 3 kHz to 300 GHz. RF interference specifically affects high-speed data transmission and wireless connectivity thus requiring specialized mitigation strategies.

The comprehensive framework of EMC ensures devices operate without interference issues while protecting them from RF-specific challenges. The increasing adoption of automation and IoT and high-speed networks requires proper EMI and EMS and RF management to achieve reliable performance in manufacturing and transportation and telecommunications applications.

Mencom's Commitment to EMC Excellence

Mencom Corporation delivers solutions that mitigate EMI, enhance EMS, and ensure EMC through advanced shielding and grounding technologies. Mencom's EMC-focused portfolio includes:

• Shielded Circular Connectors: Available in M8, M12, M23, and MINI configurations, these connectors feature nickel-plated brass/stainless steel shells with shielded cables for superior EMI grounding. With IP69 ratings, they support industrial ethernet, sensors, and power distribution in manufacturing and automation.

• EMC Series Rectangular Connectors: As the U.S. Master Distributor for ILME, Mencom offers heavy-duty rectangular connectors with EMC shielding to protect the sensitive signals from external electromagnetic signals but also to seal stronger signals from leaking to the outside and interfering with surrounding electronics, achieving -87.557 dB at 10 MHz and -71.649 dB at 100 MHz. These connectors excel in automation, aerospace, and power applications.

• EMI Shielding Cable Glands: These nickel-plated brass glands offer IP68 protection, comparable to NMEA 6P. They effectively ground shielded cables and easily connect the cable shield to the metal cable gland. They are available with PG and metric threads.

Mencom Corporation invites you to explore our advanced EMC solutions at PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2025, Booth #SU-32026. See their EMI Series and shielded connectors ensuring reliable performance in high-interference environments. Visit us September 29 - October 1, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Brownfield Networking: Shielding Ethernet Upgrades
Brownfield Networking: Shielding Ethernet Upgrades
Plant engineers upgrading older production lines with modern networking face a constraint that new facilities rarely encounter: limited cable pathways. In many existing plants, new Ethernet lines must run close to heavy motor power cables, variable frequency drives, and other equipment that was never designed with data transmission in mind. This proximity creates electromagnetic interference (EMI), which can degrade signal integrity and contribute to communication errors or packet loss on
ILME AXYR Tool-Less Connector Technology
ILME AXYR Tool-Less Connector Technology
Modern industrial facilities are wiring more connections into less space, under tighter schedules, and often with workforces that can't pause for specialized tooling training. Crimp termination has served the industry well, but it introduces process overhead such as tools, calibration, operator skill, and the risk of errors whenever one of those variables slips. The AXYR series, a spring push-in termination technology for rectangular connectors, is engineered to bridge that gap. The
Engineered Connectivity for Maximum Industrial Uptime
Engineered Connectivity for Maximum Industrial Uptime
In modern manufacturing environments, uptime depends on thousands of interconnected components working together seamlessly. While major equipment and control systems receive much of the attention, long‐term operational reliability is often determined at the connection points where power, signal, and data come together under industrial conditions. Because connectors operate at every interface exposed to vibration, temperature changes, environmental contaminants, and frequent handling, their design and quality directly influence maintenance demands, troubleshooting time,

Selecting the Right AWG Wire for Smarter, Safer Industrial Performance
In today's world of advanced manufacturing and automation, every detail matters, especially when it comes to wiring. Choosing the right wire gauge might seem like a small decision, but it has a big impact on how safely and efficiently your systems run. The correct wire gauge ensures that your equipment receives the proper amount of power without overheating or energy loss. It not only keeps operations reliable and safe but
