Paediatric Clinical Trials 2017

Paediatric Clinical Trials 2017

SMi Group’s 11th annual Paediatric Clinical Trials conference will be taking place on the 20-21 March 2017 in London, UK.

The agenda will hone in on crucial topics which need to be explored and addressed. Sessions will include insightful presentations on current clinical trials, implementation, paediatric drug development, regulations and recruitment and retention.

Recruitment and retention is a key topic for discussion as there is a greater number of patient representative networks calling for better engagement from the very beginning of drug development. The earlier families are involved in the process, the more likely a study will go to completion.

Recruitment and retention will be discussed on day two of the event by Roche, Johnson & Johnson and Alstrom Syndrome UK.

1. Clinical Outcome Assessments in Paediatric Clinical Trials will be addressed by Tom Willgoss, Senior Outcomes Research Scientist from Roche. Tom will explore the importance of patient-centred measurement in paediatric clinical trials and identifying the appropriate informant and whether this is a self-report, caregiver-report or clinician-report. He will also discuss regulatory considerations within recruitment and operational factors such as optimising paediatric clinical trials while preventing common pitfalls throughout the study.

2. Challenges of Conducting Paediatric Trials in Oncology: The Case for External Contemporaneous Control Studies will be presented by Hernando Patino, Senior Medical Director, from Johnson & Johnson. He will be addressing several issues including: challenges of conducting paediatric trials in oncology with observational studies; the use of external contemporaneous versus historical controls; addressing generalisability of results coming from these studies; practical operational aspects of this type of study and asking the question ‘can registry databases be used as source for these studies?’

3. Positive Engagement, a Parent and Patient Representative Perspective will be discussed by Kerry Leeson-Beevers, Patient Representative, Paediatric Committee from EURODIS and National Development Manager of Alstrom Syndrome UK. Kerry will talk about living with a rare disease from a parent’s perspective. She will also provide insight into Alstrom UK’s journey from developing a charity to being actively involved in the delivery of their first clinical trial; the advocacy and training requirements as well as positive engagement with children, young people and their parents.

Other key speakers for the two day event include: EMA, Otsuka, AstraZeneca, Paediatric Research Consultancy, GSK and many more...

For those interested in attending, there is currently an early bird offer available; book by 31st of January to save £100 off the conference price. Register at www.paediatric-trials.co.uk/openpr
