Residential Solar Project in PA

[Gordonville, PA, July 11, 2025] - On the heels of President Trump's July 4th signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R.1), which will eliminate the federal 30% residential tax credit by the end of this year and the commercial tax credit by 2028, Belmont Solar is taking a decidedly optimistic stance. At Belmont Solar, the future of solar is still bright.

The sweeping legislation, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), outlines substantial tax policy changes and targets renewable energy sectors, including specific solar, wind, and EV sections. All new proposals speed up the elimination of federal tax credits in these renewable energy sectors.

While many in the solar industry brace for impact and slowdowns, Belmont Solar's founder and master electrician, Ben Zook, knows there's a bright future ahead.

"You're just not going to hold solar back. We know that solar is still very beneficial from an environmental and energy security perspective. And it still provides good protection against rising energy costs."

According to Belmont Solar Design Consultant Mike Weaver, eliminating the tax credit doesn't negate the investment's value.

"We are routinely providing 7-year paybacks," said Weaver. "Without the credit, it may extend to 10 years, but that's still better than five to seven years ago."

While the OBBBA prioritizes traditional energy sources, Zook knows that the solar movement will continue to grow. Innovation is the future, and solar energy provides a simple and clean way to embrace that future. Besides, as Zook points out again:

"Truthfully, for most folks, it makes sense to go solar with or without tax incentives."

Belmont Solar urges homeowners and businesses to act while federal credits remain available. Those interested in residential solar projects still qualify for the 30% federal tax credit if their solar system is installed and operational by December 31, 2025. Commercial solar projects will remain eligible for federal tax credits if construction begins on or before July 4, 2026, and if construction is completed by December 31, 2026.

Of course, there remain many state-level programs, potential local grants, and net metering options that can help ease installation costs for potential solar customers.

To learn what solar incentives are still available and to get a solar quote before the end of the year, Belmont Solar encourages individuals to explore their Solar Panel Cost Calculator or request a personalized consultation.
