A very special summer experience awaits guests, families, the press and creative types in the Mecklenburg Lake District on 19.07.2025. The town of Plau am See will become the stage for one of the most colorful and unique events in northern Germany: The Bathtub Rally 2.0 meets the NDR MV Summer Party. Two events, one day together full of joie de vivre, inventiveness, music and encounters. Admission is free _

Plau am See - where people make a difference together

Plau am See has long been more than just a popular vacation resort. The charming small town is developing into a driving force for economic, cultural and social impulses in the region with creative events. The Bathtub Rally 2.0 is not just an event, but a symbol: for cohesion, co-creation, lightness and the joy of innovation. Together with Norddeutscher Rundfunk, the city is setting an example that will make waves far beyond the region.

"This event shows what modern urban development can look like: open, intergenerational and economically relevant," says Corinna Thieme, Economic Development Manager of the town of Plau am See. "We are not just inviting people to watch, but to participate and experience."

In the tub, get set, go! - A spectacle on the Elde

The idea is as simple as it is ingenious: old bathtubs become boats. What sounds like a joke at first glance is actually a showcase for technical creativity, humor and team spirit. Up to 25 teams compete against each other on the traditional route between the lock and the lift bridge. The judging is not based on time, but on courage of design, originality and public appeal.

The rally starts after the ceremonial "Parade of Possibilities", in which the Plauer Fanfarenzug, carnival clubs from Goldberg and Lübz and the performers of the castle festival take part. The battle cry: "On the tub, get set, go!"

YOUseePLAU - real. regional. connecting.

YOUseePLAU, the creative network for encounters and culture in Plau, is behind the staging of the bathtub rally. It brings people, ideas, associations and businesses together. The event becomes a laboratory for a new sense of togetherness: handmade, open, moving. The hashtag of the day? #wave power

"We don't see the rally as a show, but as an invitation to society to come together with joy and imagination," says the YOUseePLAU team. "The tub is our boat - but the idea is what carries us."

Plau shows profile - joie de vivre as a location factor

The event is a welcome boost for the region's economy. Retailers, restaurants and accommodation providers benefit from the flow of visitors, media attention and social interaction. On this day, the proximity between business and creativity is not theory, but lived practice. And for investors, it offers an authentic picture of a city that can, if you let it.

The event also highlights voluntary work - an often overlooked locational advantage. Without the involvement of numerous associations, craftspeople and supporters, this festival would not be possible.

Clear the stage for the NDR MV summer party

After the finale on the water, the festival moves to the market square. The big NDR MV summer party starts there at 17:00. The live band "Billy Rock", cult angler Heinz Galling, weather expert Thomas Globig, the team from the Plau Castle Festival, Ernie & Bert from Sesame Street - and of course the stage stars Stefan Kuna (NDR 1 Radio MV) and Frauke Rauner (Nordmagazin).

There will be music, laughter and dancing - with DJ Pascal until late into the summer night. And incidentally, it will also be decided whether Plau am See wins 1,000 euros for a good cause: in the live resolution of the NDR city task in the Nordmagazin.

All information for guests, media and participants

The most important thing for guests: Admission is free. Participation in the rally is still possible - teams can register at short notice via the website.

Arrival & parking: Recommended parking spaces are available in Quetziner Straße, at the Wittstocker Weg sports field and in the Wallstraße / An der Metow area. The city center is partially closed. Information on traffic management can be found online.

Press, bloggers and media welcome

Whether you are a blogger, photographer, video team or journalist - the Bathtub Rally 2.0 is a real treasure trove of content with heart and humor. From absurdly beautiful costumes and spectacular crash landings to emotional sound bites: those who report here report on people, ideas and the community. Media are very welcome - with access to teams, stage, jury and background information. From 19:30, the NDR Nordmagazin will be reporting live from the Plauer Marktplatz. Anyone who needs interviews, sound bites or pictures before or after the event can contact the city marketing department directly.
