ESTA fee doubles on October 1, 2025 - apply now and save!

The United States is increasing the fee for the ESTA electronic travel authorization from the current 21 to 40 US dollars as of October 1, 2025. The increase is part of the recently passed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" and means additional costs of 19 US dollars per person for US travelers.

As an approved ESTA is valid for a full 24 months and allows any number of entries, it is worth applying before the fee increase, even for travel in 2027. "If you already know that you want to fly to the USA in the next two years, it is best to apply for an ESTA immediately and save the old fee," recommends Diana Bohlinth, Managing Director of THE AMERICAN DREAM US GreenCard Service GmbH. US tourism remains stable - Germany is even growing

New figures from the National Travel & Tourism Office (NTTO) show that international demand for travel to the USA is only declining slightly despite political discussions: In May 2025, the United States recorded 2.959 million overseas arrivals, a decrease of 2.8 percent compared to May 2024. The German market stands out particularly positively: 1.044 million arrivals represent an increase of 2.2 percent in the same period.

With a view to major events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, industry experts even expect additional growth in the medium term. Travelers who take care of their entry formalities in good time not only avoid higher fees, but also expected processing backlogs shortly before the price increase.
