Dali by Comdez Unveils "The Power of Paranthas": A Limited-Edition Wearable Artwork by T.K. Manoj Kumar at The Imperial, New Delhi

New Delhi, July 12, 2025 - Dali by Comdez, a contemporary art and design studio based in Noida, unveiled a limited-edition wearable art piece titled "The Power of Paranthas" by emerging artist and retired IAS officer T.K. Manoj Kumar at an exclusive launch event hosted at The Imperial Hotel, New Delhi.

The artwork takes the form of a hand-illustrated pashmina stole, capturing evocative scenes from the heart of Old Delhi through intricate black ink drawings. Far from a conventional accessory, the stole serves as a piece of cultural memory-documenting the sensory chaos, visual language, and lived textures of Purani Dilli.

Only 25 pieces of this stole have been produced, making it a rare collector's item under the studio's ongoing initiative Past Forward, which aims to reinterpret Indian heritage through contemporary, design-led formats.

"It's a love letter to Purani Dilli," said Manoj Kumar during the unveiling. "A place where stories drip from the walls and smells tell their own history."

A Street Rendered in Ink and Emotion

The artwork is inspired by Paranthe Wali Gali, the iconic food lane in the walled city of Delhi. Instead of literal illustration, Kumar's design captures the spirit of the street-its movement, its clutter, its vernacular charm. Signboards in Hindi and Urdu, knotted electrical lines, layered facades, and crowded human flows are all rendered in expressive strokes, printed on fine pashmina for a wearable experience that feels both tactile and intimate.

The phrase "The Power of Paranthas"-playfully embedded into the design-ties the work back to the cultural and culinary richness of the site it memorializes.

The Launch at The Imperial

The unveiling event, held in the refined halls of The Imperial, welcomed a curated audience of artists, editors, diplomats, and design thinkers. As the stole was revealed, the room shifted from observation to conversation-with discussions emerging around the role of wearable art, memory preservation, and the future of heritage storytelling through design.

Each recipient of the stole walked away with more than a garment-they carried with them a fragment of Delhi's cultural soul.
