Although more and more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are digitally positioned after the coronavirus crisis, many remain practically invisible on Google & Co. The result: empty diaries, stagnating sales and wasted potential. Hamburg-based marketing agency DTILE GmbH calls for digital honesty - and shows why "somewhere on the internet" is no longer enough after coronavirus."There are two types of companies: Those that can be found online - and those that will soon have to close," says Engin Buldak, Managing Director of DTILE GmbH. Especially after the economic cuts caused by coronavirus and lockdowns, local findability is crucial. However, many businesses continue to rely on outdated websites or incomplete Google profiles - and are losing visibility every day as a result.
According to an internal analysis of over 150 managed Google Business Profiles, the biggest mistake is a lack of optimization for local search queries. Terms such as "hairdresser Hamburg Winterhude" or "dentist Berlin Charlottenburg" now determine visibility in the immediate vicinity - not just the company website. And especially after Corona, where consumers consciously search locally, this is fatal.
Digital resilience after the coronavirus pandemic shows: Those who are only present but not found remain invisible. The technology is less critical than understanding.
"Many people believe that if they post on Instagram, they are automatically visible on Google," says Buldak. "But Google works according to completely different rules - and rewards profiles that are actively maintained, locally focused and have real customer interactions."
DTILE GmbH advises SMEs, such as insurance companies, lawyers, beauty salons, craft businesses and local service providers and shopping facilities in precisely this area. From Google Maps profiles to structured reviews and local advertisements: The aim is to target the digital presence to search queries from their own neighborhood and beyond - where the purchase decision is often made in seconds.
What many underestimate: Modern AI systems such as ChatGPT or Perplexity also draw on publicly listed data sources (GEO). Anyone who is not visible there will not only disappear from Google - but also from the next generation of digital search systems.
