No gallery owner wanted to work with me! - the success story of the artist MarHeni

Berlin, June 2025 - It's a sentence that sits well. And one that Maria Hennig - known by her artist name MarHeni - now utters with a slight smile and pride. Because what began as a frustrating realization has become the starting point of a success story that has developed entirely without traditional funding structures: no gallery, no art academy, no public institution - just herself, her pictures, her will. And in the meantime: a remarkable double-digit sales success.

"At some point, I got tired of constantly waiting and hoping without any result, let alone an answer. There was complete ignorance and silence. No gallery wanted to work with me - so I simply opened my own," says MarHeni. In 2021, she transformed her Berlin apartment into a very personal gallery. Not a gimmick, but a consistently curated space: exclusive, private tours, personal talks, targeted sales. Directly to the people, without detours, without compromises, with heart and soul.

She sold her first works to enthusiastic friends and acquaintances and later via social media channels such as Instagram. With the support of friends, the curious and the brave who came, looked - and bought. In the meantime, she has sold countless works and received more than a dozen direct commissions. No gallery has ever built her this stage - so she built it herself.

MarHeni is not only an artist, she is also a host, a mediator, a salesperson - all in one person. What helps? A strong attitude and the conviction that this art is unique and incomparable. Works that captivate and touch. Sometimes radical, sometimes delicate. Always with a deeper message.

Previous exhibition experiences - such as in the now closed gallery at the Pergamon Museum or a cost-intensive participation in 2019 in the "Galerie Achtzig" - were instructive, but not trend-setting. "Success is not whether someone 'lets you in' - success is whether you follow your own style and go your own way, even if it is not yet visible," she says.

And she does. The next step? An exhibition in Switzerland at the end of the year. The bigger dream? New York. To show internationally what happens when you trust yourself - and the power of your own expression.
