The City of Tampa's First Credit Union Celebrates 90 Years of Service

Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union, the City of Tampa's first credit union, is celebrating 90 years of financial service, community roots, and member dedication. What began in 1935 with just 13 city employees and a cigar box of assets has evolved into one of the area's most trusted financial institutions-serving thousands across Tampa Bay with the same core philosophy it started with: people helping people.

To commemorate this historic milestone, Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union (TBF) launched a series of community events at all their brand locations, local partnerships and a member sweepstakes and giveaway kicking off on its official charter day, May 23, including DJ Flip Rios who went live on iHeart Radio Rumba 95.7 and gave away concert tickets throughout the day. These activations brought together members, families, and neighbors for a celebration rooted in gratitude and service.

In addition to in-branch celebrations, TBF has partnered with Tampa Bay History Center and Blue Star Families to launch a dedicated display of Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union's humble beginnings, a series of events and free attendance days for TBF members.

"Ninety years is more than just a milestone-it's a testament to the trust our members place in us. We're honored to have helped generations of Tampa Bay families achieve financial wellness, and we're just getting started", says Lori Allen Mills, marketing manager for Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union.

As TBF marks 90 years of service, it's also focused on the future-investing in new technologies and member-first innovations to help Tampa's next generation navigate an ever-changing financial world.

Member Sweepstakes and Giveaway
TBF launched the "Legacy Lens" in-branch sweepstakes through June 26. Members can participate by visiting any branch, taking a commemorative Polaroid photo, and sharing the year they joined the credit union. Each week, one participant will be selected to win $90, with winners announced every Friday at 9 a.m. in-branch. The sweepstakes is open to members in good standing, with one entry allowed per person.

Tampa Bay History Center and Blue Star Families Partnership and Events
TBF is proud to partner with Tampa Bay History Center and Blue Star Families, family members on active military duty, for a limited-time exhibit chronicling the credit union's history and impact in the region, which includes showcasing TBF's history and origin story. To celebrate, credit union members receive complimentary gallery admission on May 23, June 23, July 23 and August 23, reflecting the founding date. Members simply present their credit union card at the second-floor Welcome Desk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Blue Star Families also has a dedicated scavenger hunt event on Saturday, June 14 called "Mission: History! A Pirate's Guide to Florida's Past." hosted at the Tampa Bay History Center.
