Langhe-Roero and Monferrato are areas in Piemonte that have been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for their wine culture. Events large and small invite you to experience this gourmet region in north-west Italy in a different way.

_Piacere Barbaresco_ - this is the title of a series of events that gives wine lovers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the universe of one of the most renowned red wines of the Piemonte region every year from April to the beginning of June. Each weekend, various winegrowers present their wines in the vinotheque of the place that gives both the growing region and the wines their pretty name - Barbaresco.

Agliano Terme is a small village in the Asti region, nestled in the green hills of Monferrato. Another famous red wine is grown here - Barbera d'Asti DOCG. On the weekend of May 31/June 1, 2025, Agliano celebrates "_Barbera Unplugged_". The town center will be transformed into an open-air wine bar where wine lovers can get to know and enjoy Barbera from various wineries with live music and culinary tastings. Bra, about half an hour's drive from the city of Alba, is known as the cradle of the Slow Food movement. From September 19 to 22, the Slow Food association invites connoisseurs from near and far to the "_Cheese Festival_" - the largest and most important raw milk cheese fair in the world. Here, pro gourmets present their specialties made from cow's, sheep's and goat's milk. The organizers emphasize that animal welfare is a high priority for all producers represented here. Although cheese is the focus of this event, meat and sausage specialties from local producers and, of course, wines from the region round off the range of delights.

Canelli, a community of 10,000 inhabitants in the province of Asti, is regarded by the Piedmontese as the "capital" of fine sparkling wine. Here it is produced using the classic method, i.e. double fermentation on yeast, and matured to perfection in the "underground cathedrals" dug deep into the tufa. On July 12 and 13, Canelli offers the opportunity to get to know these gently sparkling wines in a particularly lively atmosphere. Music, folklore and cultural performances form the supporting program for all those who head to the cool cellars to taste the wines at "_Canelli, città del vino_".

Regional and national fairs dedicated to black and white truffles are part of the annual calendar of events in many places in Piemonte. From October 11 to December 8, 2025, the city of Alba is setting the stage for its big star, the white truffle. At the "_fiera internazionale del tartufo bianco d'Alba_", everything revolves around the coveted noble mushroom from the forests around Alba. The white truffle, one of the most expensive foods in the world, is traded at the fairgrounds on Saturdays and Sundays during this period and presented in show cooking - with tastings, of course. In the restaurants of Alba and the surrounding area, you can also indulge in tartufo delights on any other day during the truffle season. "_Sagre_" is the name given to traditional culinary festivals throughout the region, where people meet at food stalls to enjoy a particular local product in different variations. Pasta made according to a specific recipe, for example, or traditionally made bread, honey, desserts and other delicacies.

Classical, jazz folklore

Castello Grinzane Cavour in the province of Cuneo impresses with its unmistakable architecture. The Piedmont Regional Enoteca is based in this imposing castle for good reason. The vineyard surrounding the castle is an open-air museum. Here you can learn a lot about the history of viticulture and the know-how of the winegrowers. On June 21, the castle park becomes a concert stage. Classical music could hardly be more attractive. A hot tip for jazz fans is _MONFORTINJAZZ_. The festival transforms the Horszowsky Amphitheatre in Monforte d'Alba in the province of Cuneo into a unique sound arena on five evenings between the beginning of July and the beginning of August. For the provincial capital of Asti, the Palio on September 7 will be the most important event of the year. The traditional horse race, in which horses and riders have been giving their all on the piazza since the Middle Ages, celebrates its 750th anniversary this year. The picturesque town of Nizza Monferrato, on the other hand, has been organizing the "Wine Barrel Race" for a few years now. In 2025, it will take place on June 7/8. The town wants to commemorate the tradition of making wooden barrels - and a time when crafts were everywhere and society consisted mainly of craftsmen and farmers. The entertaining competition goes hand in hand with the "_Monferrato a tavola_" event, which spoils the palate with highlights from regional cuisine.

Art and culinary delights in the open air

Mangialonga_ is the name of a convivial country walk through the vineyards of La Morra in the province of Cuneo. At the event, which will take place this year on August 31, foodies from all over the world will be able to taste the best wines from local wineries and enjoy authentic culinary delights. The village of Diano d'Alba is hosting a similar event. "_Di sörì in sörì_" (from vineyard to vineyard) is the name of the gourmet walk there (on October 19, 2025). The fine wines taste particularly good in a fun group of like-minded people. Inspiring a wide audience for landscape and art - that's what the _Germinale - Monferrato Art Fest_ is all about. The exhibition of works by contemporary artists takes place from September 6 to 29 in the hills of Basso Monferrato. The grape harvest and the art of singing can also be combined to great effect. At least that's what the wine community of Rosigniano Monferrato wants to prove once again on October 5 at "Vendemmia in Arte".
