U.S. imports of organic bananas fluctuated wildly over the period under review. Import data is unavailable before 2013. In 2014, imports fell by 53% from their previous year's value. In 2015, imports of organic bananas rebounded strongly, rising to 198,353 thousand USD.

According to IndexBox estimates, Ecuador remained the dominant supplier of organic bananas to the U.S. market. In 2015, Ecuador's organic banana imports totaled 67,638 thousand USD, which accounted for a 34% share in terms of U.S. imports. Peru, Colombia, Mexico, and Costa Rica were the other key suppliers of organic bananas in 2015, with a 61% combined share of total organic imports.

Peru (+86.6% per year) and Mexico (+28.5% per year) were the fastest growing exporters of organic bananas to the U.S. from 2013 to 2015. Peru significantly strengthened its position in U.S. organic banana import structure, growing its share from 5% in 2013 to 22% in 2015.

Import prices for organic bananas grew by +10.5% annually from 2013 to 2015. The highest annual rates were recorded in Colombia (+14.3%), followed by Ecuador (+2.0%).

The average import price for organic bananas was 0.6 USD per kg in 2015. Import prices varied considerably by country of origin. Colombia (0.78 USD/kg) was a high priced country of origin, while Costa Rica (0.49 USD/kg) and Ecuador (0.54 USD/kg) were among the lowest.
