A glimpse into the past of nature illustration
The collection brings together carefully curated illustrations from botanical books, scientific studies and artistic works from the 18th and 19th centuries. These images not only show the diversity and beauty of tree species but also reflect the knowledge and appreciation that people had for nature in times gone by.
"Trees are symbols of life, growth and permanence," explains Isabel Meraner, press officer for the agency. "With our collection, we aim to celebrate the Day of the Tree by showcasing historical artworks that honour these values, while also raising awareness for the protection of our forests."
Online exhibition and inspiration for creatives
The collection will be available on the stock agency's website at https://www.quagga-illustrations.de/kollektionen/artful-nature-historical-illustrations-arbor-day/ from April 17, 2025. Visitors can browse the illustrations, download them or use them as inspiration for creative projects - be it for publications, designs or personal art projects.

Quagga Illustrations is part of the company Quagga Media UG (haftungsbeschränkt). Quagga Media was founded in Berlin in 2010. In the first few years, we focused on building an image database of historical drawings/illustrations. This database currently consists of around 150,000 drawings/illustrations and covers all areas of Central European natural and cultural history. A number of by-products have been created or are still under construction, in particular databases (anniversaries, botanical and zoological names, personalities, thesauri). Since 2010, we have also been involved in the creation of digital and analog products (ebooks, apps). We have also accumulated IT expertise in the creation, digitization and use of digital collections and pass this knowledge on.
