UK Small Businesses Demand More Service Orientated Accountants

A recent survey under taken by Just Accountants (http://www.justaccountants.co.uk), the UK accountants finder website, has shown that the number one reason given by SMEs for wanting to change their accountants is that their current accountants did not respond quickly enough to enquiries.

Company director, Mark Stockton, commented "Our team speak to hundreds of SMEs every month and they are telling us that many accountants are not providing a sufficient quality of service for their needs".

"It is clear that the modern SME requires more than just bookkeeping and tax returns and the feeling is that accountants are just not delivering", Stockton added.

Over 70% of SMEs who were looking to switch said that a poor level of responsiveness was the reason they wished to change accountants.

Many of the respondents told of phone calls going unreturned for days, even weeks and emails not being answered at all.

While a majority of the small businesses polled did say that their VAT and tax returns were filed on time and were accurate, it appears that - when it comes to communicating with clients, accountants are failing to live up to expectations.

"In an on-demand economy, it seems likely the old style accountants will start to lose out to proactive, responsive accountancy firms. This research certainly seems to confirm that", Stockton concluded.
