Truphone Hangs Up on Mobile International Roaming Charges

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 04, 2008) - The days of mobile phone users across the world paying ultra-high rates simply for making a call while abroad or calling internationally are finally over, thanks to an innovative UK mobile company.

From anywhere on the planet, customers of Truphone can call countries in the ´Tru Zone´, on their mobile phone, at the fabulously low rates of just GBP0.03 (USD0.06 for Truphone customers from outside the UK) per minute to landlines and GBP0.15 (USD0.30) per minute to mobiles. The 40 countries in the Tru Zone account for 60% of the world´s mobile phones and include most EU countries, Australia, Japan and Russia.

Calls to certain countries - including China, Hong Kong, USA and Canada - cost even less, at just GBP0.03 (USD0.06) per minute to both landlines and mobiles. Truphone-to-Truphone mobile calls are always free, no matter where in the world the two parties are.

Truphone´s new pricing structure also means roaming charges have been abolished - and the potential savings quickly add up. For example, a 10 minute call from Europe to a UK landline with Vodafone´s International Call Saver option currently costs a UK customer GBP3.80, while the same call with Truphone costs a mere GBP0.30. A 10 minute call to the UK from America for the same Vodafone customer currently costs an eye-watering GBP11.00 - but with Truphone costs just GBP0.30.

Truphone has also abolished fees for receiving mobile calls abroad. However, a UK Vodafone customer on its International Call Saver option is currently charged GBP0.75 per minute to answer a call in the USA; the same customer receiving a call in Europe is billed GBP0.19 per minute.
