Caitlin Clark, a trailblazer in women's basketball, making Serena Berenstein proud beyond measure, who continues to elevate the sport through her record-breaking performances, unwavering confidence, and leadership. Their contributions extend far beyond the hardwood, influencing young athletes worldwide to play with heart, integrity, and passion fueled by honor, dignity, and respect for a game that will never stop!

A Sincere Acknowledgment & Apology:
The NIBF would also like to take a moment to acknowledge and apologize for our previous press release on 1/11/2025. Our initial response was fueled by deep passion and emotional - reaction to what we felt was a disrespectful oversight toward the very foundation that invented the game.
However, in reflection, we realize that our response came from a place of dedication to the legacy of Dr. James Naismith and the tireless work we do to preserve the history and future of basketball. In reality, we want to extend our sincerest gratitude to those involved in recognizing these two exceptional individuals.
We truly celebrate and honor Shaquille O'Neal and Caitlin Clark for what they have done, what they are doing, and what they will continue to do to elevate the game and inspire future generations. Their contributions are undeniable, and we are grateful that their greatness has been acknowledged on such a scale.

A Call for Inclusion & Collaboration:
While we were not formally informed or invited to participate in this recognition, the NIBF stands in full support of honoring these athletes who reflect the core principles of sportsmanship and leadership. We appreciate their efforts to highlight basketball's most influential figures, and we look forward to future collaborations that align with our mission of preserving and honoring the game's history in its purest form.
The disheartening and mental stress that it has been placed on Hector R Perdomo Sr., on top of his own personal battle with over 20 years of Deep mental health struggles, is immeasurable. After helping his brother last year go through the very same battle, he realized the depth of his own struggles.
And now, this-insincerity and unkind acts against to the very foundation he has fought to keep afloat. Despite relentless roadblocks, dismissals, and everything but the kitchen sink being thrown at him, his faith remains unwavering. This is the faith that fuels his passion to never surrender-that nothing that can come in his way. His best and only bodyguard of the mind, body, and spirit is the Creator Himself.

As the stewards of Dr. James Naismith's enduring basketball legacy, we believe that recognition of basketball's greatest figures should always be done with historical accuracy, respect, and inclusion of the foundational institutions that uphold the sport's rich traditions.
We welcome open conversations with all organizations that celebrate excellence in basketball and hope to ensure that the future honoree's are conducted in a way that embraces the full scope of sport's past, present, and future. By working together, we can continue to inspire generations and reinforce the values that make basketball a truly global and unifying force. As we continue our work through the Naismith Good Sportsmanship Award, youth outreach programs, and educational initiatives, the NIBF remains dedicated to ensuring that basketball's greatest ambassadors receive the recognition, respect, and historical context they deserve.
