Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC) College of Engineering, Hyderabad, organizes an industry connect programme at Mumbai

Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC) College of engineering organized an Industry Connect session on the central theme “EQ Vs IQ” in Mumbai. Targeted at HR specialists, the event witnessed participation from around 40 industry leaders from HR domain who deliberated on the role of the EQ and IQ within the organization and life.
The Industry Connect platform of MEC sought to bring together human resources professionals from leading enterprises, business leaders and strategic thinkers to deliberate on the changing role of human capital in reshaping businesses in the near future as well as in shaping career growth opportunities and leadership roles for employees in organisations worldwide.
The event sought to delve into the realm of IQ and EQ and what is the importance of each in today’s evolved workplace: the age-old question of superiority of reason or emotions. Intelligence quotient is a number derived from a person’s reasoning ability which is measured using problem solving skills, while Emotional Quotient is a person’s capability to recognize emotions and to use these to guide behaviour and thinking. The event brought to fore the equal importance that needs to be put on both for the organizations to grow.
‘‘There is scope for growth through learning at every stage of life irrespective of age. Every organization/ Institution today is making a constant effort to groom its students /employees on attitude and working life ethics for success at work. MEC strives to imbibe these qualities in its students through examples. Life is all about learning through examples’’ says Prof. Bishnu Pal, Mahindra Ecole Centrale
The keynote speaker was Mr. Shriram Darbha, Head of Human Resources at Bombay Stock Exchange. Mr. Darabha, a HR practitioner with over 25 years of experience and a renowned authority on holistic work-life balance. He spoke about how the HR function for any organization should seek to develop fully engaged “mindful workforce” of the future, which is ageless, collaborative and eventually intuitive. We said that we are in the midst of a change: From vertically aligned organizations, we are moving to virtually aligned organizations and then to virtuously aligned workplaces.
At the forum, a panel discussion on EQ Vs IQ also took place. Every organization 85% of financial success is due to skills in “Human Engineering”, your personality, ability in solving the problem, communicate, negotiate and lead. Shockingly on 15% is achieved due to technical knowledge. Some psychologist say only 10% of success is achieved through IQ and the rest is achieved through EQ. This was deliberated on in the discussions. The panellists included Ms. Sapana Kapoor, Vice President- HR, Aditya Birla Finance Limited, Mr. Gautam Gupta, Associate Vice President - Strategic Leadership Development, Wipro Limited, Prof. Bishnu Pal, Professor of Natural Sciences, MEC, Prof. Vijaysekhar Chellaboina, School of Engineering Science, MEC and Prof. Ravi Bollina, of the School of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, MEC.
More than 40 HR specialists participated in the session, which included head of departments and senior functionaries from Amforge Industries Limited, Wipro Ltd., Aditya Birla Finance Limited, Axis Capital Limited, BSE Limited, DTD Express Limited, Forbes & Company Limited, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited, IDFC Bank Limited, KPMG, Welspun Renewables Energy Private Limited, among others.
The discussions that ensued revolved around the increasing importance of various critical areas of HR such as retention, employee engagement, talent acquisition and management on today’s businesses and how IQ and EQ can help in each area if it is made a part of the organizational and life.
