Miami Beach, FL - Feb 7, 2025 - Soho Beach House proudly presents Spacebaby, a solo exhibition by Juan Pablo Bohorquez, a New York-born artist making waves in the Miami art scene. On view through the end of March 2025, Spacebaby invites viewers into a surreal dreamscape where the subconscious meets the sacred, blending contemporary surrealism with archetypal symbolism.
At the heart of this exhibition is Spacebaby, Bohorquez's signature figure-a childlike astronaut with an outstretched hand, grasping toward the viewer or holding the enigmatic golden egg. As a recurring motif in his work, Spacebaby embodies human potential, spiritual transformation, and the eternal search for meaning. Through his compositions, Bohorquez explores the tension between enlightenment and earthly distractions, urging viewers to engage with their own subconscious landscapes.
The golden egg, central to Bohorquez's visual lexicon, evokes themes of alchemy, rebirth, and vulnerability. Referencing the surrealist tradition of Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and Giorgio de Chirico, Bohorquez's paintings juxtapose familiar yet mysterious elements-television screens, floating heads, tricycles, and goldfish-inviting contemplation on reality, illusion, and the power of symbols. Works such as Under the Veil of Dark Waters (2024) and Broken Egg (2022) challenge our perception of innocence, transformation, and the role of media in shaping our consciousness.

A 2024 Creative Futures Collective Soho House Fellow, Bohorquez is part of an initiative dedicated to supporting emerging artists from underrepresented backgrounds by providing mentorship, funding, and global exposure. Through this fellowship, he has continued to develop his unique visual language, blending personal and collective memory with surrealist symbolism. His work is a meditation on the interplay between identity, subconscious exploration, and the universal search for truth. Spacebaby is not merely an exhibition but a journey-an invitation to descend into the unknown, to unearth hidden messages, and to discover the treasure that lies within.
