The Stamp Treasures of Algerian Independence to be Displayed in The Philatelic Exhibition in France

The Philatelic Exhibition will be displaying the stamp treasures of Algerian Independence. The exhibition will be live in France, throughout 2025 for collectors all over the world.

The Evian Agreements, signed on March 18, 1962, between France and the Algerian provisional government providing for the independence of Algeria de facto excluded the use of French stamps to frank the mail of the new State recognized by referendum.

In this transitional context of the first months of independence during the period from July 1962 to January 1963, French stamps therefore had to be obligatorily marked with the overprint "E.A" in reference to the Algerian state.

The postal administration had also planned, in addition to the latter, to erase the legend "French Republic" by overprints that could be manual or typographic. These specificities and the variety of printing according to the issuing departments mean that these stamps or letters can be extremely rare and difficult to discover on the philatelic market.

They therefore offer great opportunities and their value can increase depending on their cancellation in small towns or very sparsely populated departments. Most of them are so rare that they are not even listed in the major quotation catalogues such as Yvert et Tellier, Michel, Scott or Stanley Gibbons. The rarity of these stamps is the best guarantee of their value and they were finally listed in 1989 in a specialist catalogue that is authoritative in the field.

The latter compiles all of these EA overprinted French stamps issued in Algeria from 1962 and which are witnesses to the history of Algerian independence represented in what is currently the most important collection of this period. They will be exhibited during the year 2025 for the pleasure of the greatest collectors around the world.
