The HUB explores 3D organoid cultures for personalised

Robert Vries, Managing Director at the Hubrecht Organoid Technology Foundation (The HUB) has joined the speaker lineup for SMi Group’s launch conference on 3D Cell Culture. The event will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of February 2017 in London.

The HUB is a leading institution on organoid technology, and has established a ‘living biobank’. This growing collection of organoids from patients with various forms of cancer is used to link genetic and transcriptional information to drug responsiveness on a personal level. The HUB explores novel therapeutic strategies, including responsiveness to drug combinations, to develop rules for patient stratification based on drug responsiveness in vitro. This work is pivotal is progressing towards personalised treatments.

Against this backdrop, Robert will present a keynote entitled “3D organoid cultures: a personalised model in drug discovery as well as companion diagnostics” which addresses the following issues:
• how increasing the use of patient-derived cultures in preclinical development has the potential to identify, and eliminate, drugs likely to fail in preclinical trials;
• why high failure rates remains one of the greatest challenges to pharmaceutical drug development;
• how to use 3D and organoid biobanks to develop preclinical drug development tools and clinical personalised diagnostics; and
• how the use of organoid models has already led to successful patient specific treatments of Cystic Fibrosis

Robert joins a panel of experts from leading companies at the forefront of 3D Cell Culture innovation including AstraZeneca, Novartis, Lonza, GSK, TissUse, GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Epithelix, Microduits and more.

3D Cell Culture 2017 will address current challenges and emerging applications of this pivotal new technique by showcasing how 3D cell culture has revolutionised drug discovery and toxicity screening, as well as how it is emerging as an invaluable tool in stem-cell research and regenerative medicine.
