Dr Jason D Heap Recognised as an Initial Teacher Trainer

In November 2024, Dr Jason D Heap FCCT NPQH-a graduate of The University of Oxford, Sheffield Hallam University, Howard Payne University, and Walden University-was recognised as a facilitator of the UK's ITT (Initial Teacher Training) programme. This work adds to Dr Heap's experience and academic training as a school leader, and now a teacher trainer. His consultancy is now in its eleventh year of global service, and Dr Heap celebrates the work that has been achieved with partners across the United States, and around the world.

During Initial Teacher Training, student teachers will spend four days per week in their respective school placements in order to develop and hone their teaching and learning experience; they also have one day per week engaged in training and self-study. They will cover topics delivered by facilitators such as Creating a Culture for Learning, Managing Student Behaviour, Self-Regulation and Metacognition, Lesson Design and Delivery, Explicit Teaching Practices, Creating High-Quality Assessments, and Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion through Education.

Dr Heap reflected on being recognised as a tutor and facilitator for Initial Teacher Training, as it further enhances the services he provides. "Having worked in education for over 20 years, it's a privilege for me to be recognised as a teacher trainer. The current generation of aspiring teachers encourages me to remain within the teaching and education profession, as they bring new ideas, an understanding of updated technology, and their positive outlook on life and improving standards for children is a real inspiration. I already have noted those with the potential to become educational leaders and managers in schools for the future, and hope to see many of the newly-qualified teachers become Principals, Headteachers, and other senior leaders throughout their careers."

Dr Heap concluded: "As a school leader, manager, consultant and scholar, I foster an ethos within schools that is conducive for working in partnerships. Lifelong learning itself is about progression and partnership. I use my experiences to ensure that a common message is sent out to all members of the community that surround schools: that learning is life long, enjoyable and fun, a personal investment, and a worthwhile social activity. I want to help create a shift in demand for and a new confidence in education."
