AFM: Quiver Digital Expands Into Movie Acquisition, Distribution

Self-distribution aggregator Quiver Digital has announced the launch of a boutique motion picture acquisition and distribution service.

Quiver, which has delivered more than 5,000 titles across major digital platforms in over 100 territories, is expanding its business model to include traditional acquisition.

“Quiver’s focus will always be self-distribution and empowering filmmakers with the tools and services to go it alone,” the company said. “However, they also recognize that there is a large contingent of filmmakers who can’t or don’t want to self-distribute. By entering the world of acquisition, Quiver can bring its reach, capacity, and tools to a new group of films and filmmakers.”

In an announcement at the American Film Market, Quiver said it’s launching the operation with a trio of titles:

“Undecided: The Movie,” a satirical documentary that follows two self-proclaimed undecided voters as they follow the 2016 campaign trail, pranking and confronting each of the presidential candidates in this year’s election. Julio DePietro directs a cast including Jason Selvig, Davram Stiefler, Aasif Mandvi and Jena Friedman.

“Long Way to the Top,” a road documentary chronicling the highs and lows of being a working musician. The film provides a behind-the-scenes look at tours with interview subjects that include band members from Def Leppard, Weezer, Phantom Planet, Limp Bizkit and Nine Inch Nails. “Seven Lovers,” a female-led romantic comedy that follows a young woman as she explores seven different types of romantic relationships in a quest to better understand her own identity. Keith Boynton directed a cast including Erin Darke, Fran Kranz, and Max Von Essen.

VP of business development Steve Bulzoni launched the initiative and marketing manager Sean Flanagan was brought in to fill out the core acquisitions team.

“New titles are flooding the marketplace, and many of them struggle to find the passion and support they require from their distributors,” Flanagan said. “If we can combine the passion that motivates our filmmakers with the powerful tools and relationships that a company like Quiver holds, we have the chance to do something empowering and special.”
