How a single mother conquers the event industry
Riehen - From small beginnings to a company with over 409 supported events every year: Petra Sarke, founder and managing director of rmp eventservice gmbh, has written a success story. With a great deal of commitment, innovation and social awareness, she has not only built up a dynamic company, but also redefined the values of her industry.A start with big names
Petra Sarke began her journey in the event industry in 2001 with an internship at AVO Session in Basel. Here she was able to take a look behind the scenes and experience first-hand working with big names such as Ray Charles and Elton John. "These experiences shaped my passion for events," says Sarke. After working as a project coordinator and in other specialist areas such as medical event planning and renewable energies, she ventured into self-employment in 2018. A necessary step for her: "As a single mother, I had hardly any opportunities on the job market in management positions."
This courage paid off: Today, rmp eventservice gmbh is a dynamic company that offers services for concerts, festivals, trade fairs and corporate events throughout Switzerland and nearby countries.
Courage and entrepreneurship - no taboo
"It wasn't always easy, but I wanted to show that you can also be successful as a single mother," emphasizes Sarke. Her story is an example of how women can overcome social expectations and obstacles. The philosophy of her company, "WE ARE ONE - WE ARE RMP", reflects her belief that team spirit and mutual support are core values - not only in the company, but also in her personal life.
rmp eventservice gmbh: A company with heart
Since her active role at rmp eventservice gmbh, Sarke has formed a company that supports up to 40 events and concerts a month and employs between 50 and 150 people depending on the season. rmp eventservice gmbh offers a wide range of services, from trade fair construction to large open-air concerts.
Its philosophy "WE ARE ONE - WE ARE RMP" is more than just a guiding principle. "It describes our conviction that everyone in the team counts," emphasizes Sarke. This approach has created a familiar working environment that is reflected in the cooperation with customers and partners.
Entrepreneurship and the challenge of the pandemic
"The coronavirus pandemic was the toughest time in my professional career," recalls Sarke. With event bans and uncertainty, the entire event industry was fighting for survival. rmp eventservice gmbh also had to find creative solutions to get through this difficult phase.
"We expanded our services, focused on new formats and worked closely with our partners to make the most of every opportunity," she reports. This period also saw the creation of the encouraging song "Wahre Helden" (True Heroes), which paid tribute to the achievements of "everyday heroes".
"It wasn't just an economic crisis, but also an emotional challenge," explains Sarke. The team spirit helped her not to give up.
"True heroes": a song for cohesion
A particular highlight of her commitment was the release of the song "Wahre Helden" ("True Heroes") during the coronavirus pandemic. Together with singer/songwriter CARMEN and musician Stefan Henning, they created an encouraging song that pays tribute to people in difficult times. "This song was our way of showing solidarity and encouraging people not to give up," says Sarke. The song was very well received and is a symbol of the company's spirit of solidarity. The song is still available on YouTube.
A success story despite obstacles
Despite the pandemic, rmp eventservice gmbh managed to emerge strongly from the crisis. Last year's resume shows how perseverance and innovative spirit pay off:
409 supported events and concerts, most of which take place over several days and require different numbers of staff depending on the event, were successfully completed.
Internal training programs improved the qualifications of employees.
The commitment to associations and people in need was further expanded.
"The pandemic has taught us to become even more flexible and creative," says Sarke. Sarke sees these successes as confirmation that an organization and a supportive environment can make it possible to balance work and family life.
Innovation meets sustainability
Petra Sarke recognized the importance of innovation and sustainability early on. Investments in modern software and sustainable modular stand construction systems are part of her strategy to establish climate-neutral processes by 2030. "We want to show that quality and environmental awareness can go hand in hand," she explains.
Visions for the future
Petra Sarke has clear plans: in addition to expanding abroad, she wants to preserve the family company culture and further expand her social and sustainable projects.
"I want to show that success, motherhood and social responsibility are not mutually exclusive. Especially in times of crisis, it becomes clear how important cohesion and innovation are," she summarizes. Her path shows that success and values do not have to be a contradiction in terms.
