Sempulse® Halo™ Platform Saves its First Life, Marking a Milestone in Emergency Response Technology. A groundbreaking moment in healthcare technology highlights the critical role of real-time, wearable medical monitoring systems.
San Marcos, TX - December 16, 2024 - Sempulse, a leader in wearable medical technology, has achieved a historic milestone: its Halo Platform has officially saved its first life. The Sempulse Halo, including the Halo sensor device, the LiveCharts app, and the Command Cloud application, provided real-time physiological data that led to life-saving action in Gwinnett County, GA.The incident involved a gunshot victim who initially appeared stable following emergency interventions. Officers on the scene assessed that the patient could wait for an ambulance, estimated to arrive in 12 minutes from the dispatch of EMS. However, a member of the police force participating in a Sempulse Halo pilot program deployed a Halo device on the victim. Within two minutes, the Halo sensor revealed a significant drop in SpO2 and pulse rate, prompting the arriving EMTs to evacuate the patient by hand. The patient was immediately transported to the hospital. Emergency department physicians later confirmed that this timely escalation, informed by the Halo Platform, directly contributed to saving the victim's life.
"We've been waiting nine years for this to happen," said Kurt Stump, CEO of Sempulse. "We always envisioned having a counter on the wall tracking the number of lives we've saved, and we've finally gone from 0 to 1. This makes all the long days worthwhile. We are extremely humbled and proud to have played a role in this life-saving moment."
The Sempulse Halo Platform is designed to transform emergency response by equipping first responders with real-time, non-invasive physiological monitoring. The Halo sensor device captures vital signs data, including SpO2, pulse rate, respiratory rate, core body temperature, and skin temperature, while the LiveCharts app visualizes this information in an intuitive interface and then prioritizes patients. The Command Cloud application connects all data streams, enabling seamless coordination across teams and centralized medical resources.
In May 2024, Sempulse received FDA clearance for the Halo Platform, validating its safety and effectiveness for clinical use. The company is currently conducting trials with the Department of Defense (DoD), police departments, EMTs, and hospitals across the country, bringing cutting-edge technology to the frontlines of emergency care.
"This is just the beginning," added Stump. "The Halo Platform has the potential to revolutionize emergency medical services by providing first responders with the tools required to make life-saving decisions faster and with greater confidence."
